WHEN PEOPLE MADE THEIR OWN ENTERTAINMENT, THERE WERE MANY PEOPLE/GROUPS THAT WILLINGLY CAME FORWARD TO “DO A TURN”, I LIST JUST A FEW BELOW.

25/02/1893 .. The Philharmonic Society has received special permission from Sir Arthur SULLIVAN to render his “Golden Legend,” and he has approved of the names of the soloists which have been submitted to him.  (IW County Press)

16/02/1895 .. Mr LUARD will give his third organ recital in the parish church Ryde, on Monday afternoon next. (IW County Press)

21/03/1903 .. The Philharmonic Society will give a rendering of the immortal work “The Elijah” on Tuesday, under the conductorship of Dr. Yates MANDER.  There is a splendid list of leading vocalists.  H.R.H. Princess Henry of Battenberg is expected to be present.  (County Press)

13/10/1913 .. After some discussion Miss PALMER proposed and Mr. F. B. HOLT seconded that an Amateur Dramatic Society be formed in Ryde, and it was carried unanimously.  A committee consisting of Mrs. G. W. COLENUTT, Mrs. F. B. HOLT, Messrs H. CRUMP, G. W. FOX, WELSH, A. J. HARTNALL, W. E. GRANT, and W. WHEELER was appointed to draw up rules, &c.  Mr. HARTNALL was elected hon. secretary pro tem.  (IW Observer)
